Memorable Moments and Using Other Materials Like Tapestry and Sparkle Tulle

TerryGami, 15 Cloth Toy and Ornament Projects for Crafters, Teachers, and Children

      Washcloth Reindeer

        Washcloth Santa

The book is now available in paperback!
The book is available at:

The most memorable moments so far for me in doing this project are:   seeing the response to the critters from my critter vetters, both young and old; getting the first proof of the book; seeing the book up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and when both companies reduced their prices; hearing from friends and long lost cousins wishing me well; getting the website up and running; and, of course, coming up with new ideas, and I have had a few in the last couple of weeks.

I went to Joann Fabrics yesterday because I had an idea of doing the Santa with tapestry material instead of the red washcloth, but still using the white terrycloth washcloth for the beard.  This would give the Santa an old world Santa look and could even match someone's couch upholstery, if you are into matching things like Barbra Steisand is.  (I am -- I can see me matching the coy in my pond with the color of my barn and it's trim! You would have had to have seen her on Oprah recently to know what I am talking about.  I don't have a green thumb in gardening, but I was tickled to see that Barbra tries, as I do, to match the flowers outside with the interior of her home.  It may be due to the fact that our birthdays are one day apart. There the similarity ends.  I just wish I could sing like she does!) I am still working on the tapestry Santa, but I think it will work with a little strip of quilt batting added to the rolls.

While I was at Joann's, I picked up small pieces of red and white sparkle tulle.  With the quilt batting added and a few adjustment made so that the red stays bright red and isn't diluted by the white tulle underneath it, I think the tulle can be used instead of terrycloth, too. It will require some fiddling with the material.  The mustache may need to be added separately.   Tulle works well with the angel, but you have to stuff the head with cotton balls or batting between the rolls to round it out.  I will try to post them when I am finished, but it will be several days, with the holiday upon us.

Also, while in Joann's, I noticed the small, $2 pieces of printed cotton fabric. Cotton material might work as long as the rolls are stuffed.  Bazaar crafters might be interested in experimenting with all of the Christmas instructions in the book with different types of material.  I think even a tulle reindeer and snowman would work with the TerryGami instructions.  Some of the tulle has crystals on it!  I would love to be experimenting, but there is no time right now.  It would make for elegant ornaments.  There is even gold tulle, which would be neat with the white of the beard as an accent. I thought I would mention these ideas now while people are making crafts for fall craft shows.

If using the terrycloth, try dusting the ornaments with white angel dust glitter to give it a sparkly, snowy sheen. Do not use a flammable fixative!  It should stick without any anyway on terrycloth.

That's all for now!

I'll be back.
Terry
